PNP, AFP refocus on crime and terror-prevention after polls

Davao City, May 20 (PIA) Police and military authorities in the city are back to fighting crime and terror following the proclamation of all winners in the recently concluded midterm senatorial and local polls.

Senior Superintendent Ronald de la Rosa, director of the Davao City Police Office said the police in the city are back to the normal mode in pursuing law enforcement duties against all forms of criminality.

“We are back to normal mode.  I told my policemen to focus on the activities and campaigns we did prior to the elections,” he said.

De la Rosa also reminded all licensed firearm holders that the election gun ban continues to be effective up to June 12.

He said after June 12, the election gun ban will be lifted and persons with official permits to carry firearms outside of residence can again enjoy the privilege.

Colonel Casiano Monilla, commander of the Task Force Davao said his soldiers have been ordered to improve their competence so that they can serve better the residents of the city.

He said the Task Force Davao complements with the DCPO in anti-crime campaign.

Monilla said that on a regular basis, the military contingent conducts checkpoints to prevent armed elements from other areas from entering the city.

He said the TF Davao still conducts regular patrols within the urban center and assists the police in the inspection of people and cargo in all transport facilities within the city.

Monilla said the TF Davao also complements with the Philippine Navy and the Philippine Coast Guard and the Maritime Police in guarding the shoreline of the city.

He assured that the unit has enough manpower resources and logistics to function effectively.

“We just need to improve further the capacity of our personnel through giving them more training so that they will master their delegated tasks,” Monilla said.

He revealed that the sole order given by Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is to prevent terror groups from bombing the city.

Monilla said Mayor-elect Rodrigo Duterte also issued him the same order.
“All our efforts are directed towards preventing any terror attack in Davao City,” he said. (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
