20 armed men apprehended in DavSur in the eve of the election


DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur, May 13 (PIA) – Some 20 armed men were apprehended at two different joint AFP-PNP checkpoints in the municipalities of Malita and Sulop in the eve of the election.

Based on the report gathered from the Davao del Sur Provincial Police Office, authorities manning the Poblacion Malita checkpoint were able to confiscate firearms comprising of one M-16 rifle, one shotgun, one .38 revolver and three .45 pistols.

DSPPO operations chief Supt. Cesario Dukiling said the 18 suspects apprehended at 10:30 pm on May 12 in Malita were onboard 13 motorcycles and a pick-up vehicle.

Dukiling said the seized firearms with ammunition and the vehicles used were all in the custody of Malita Police Station.

In Sulop town, two persons were arrested at 1:35 am of May 13 at the joint AFP-PNP checkpoint for bringing three home made .38 revolver and a 9mm ingram which were at the custody of the Sulop Police Station.

Dukiling said some ammunition and a stainless bolo with scabbard were also found in the possession of the two suspects who were onboard a motorcycle vehicle when apprehended.

DSPPO provincial director Pssupt. Ronaldo Llanera said despite these apprehensions on gun-ban violations, the conduct of the elections in the province was generally peaceful.

Llanera said they would still continue the tight watch in the entire province especially during the canvassing period.
In Malalag town, municipal PNP chief Erich Von Requilman reported that the election was peaceful, and noted that most of the voters exercised their rights to suffrage. (PIA-XI/Carina L. Cayon)
