DavSur elections run smoothly


DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur, May 13 (PIA) – The conduct of the 2013 midterm elections in the province went smoothly despite some minimal glitches concerning the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines.

Provincial election supervisor Atty. Gay Asuncion-Enumerables admitted having received complaints from election offices in Digos City and some municipalities regarding PCOS machines that would not function when voting started at 7am today.

However, she said the concerns were promptly addressed and mitigated, and that the election process continued orderly and peacefully as of 2pm.

Digos City election officer Atty. Alan Kadon said they experienced technical problem with two of their PCOS machines at the polling center at Ramon Magsaysay Elementary School in Barangay Zone 3 which has the biggest voting population.

But Kadon said they immediately dispatched the extra PCOS to replace the machines that malfunctioned.
At 9:00 am onwards, he said the election process in Digos City which has a total of 19,524 registered voters went smoothly.

He added that as of 12 noon, 70 percent of the voters has already casted their votes.

Meanwhile, Enumerables said that at exactly 12 noon, all Boards of Canvassers in Digos City and 14 municipalities in the province have convened at their respective canvassing centers to prepare for the counting of votes which will be right after voting period closed at 7pm.

She said the provincial Board of Canvassers will convene at 6pm today yet, and that they expect to start receiving results from the municipal and city level at 8pm. (PIA-XI/Carina L. Cayon)
