New Firetrucks for Davao, Tagum and Digos cities

DAVAO CITY, May 17 (PIA) The Bureau of Fire Protection XI unveiled the acquisition of three modern fire trucks that will augment the fire fighting and rescue capability in the cities of Davao, Tagum and Digos.

Chief Inspector Carlos Duenas, City Fire Marshall said the new fire truck has boosted the morale of his members since they can now respond to other contingencies aside from putting off the fire given its additional equipment for rescue operation.

He said the Austrian-made fire trucks can accommodate a six-man team each.

Duenas said each fire truck has a load capacity at 4,000 liters, ladders and turret nozzles that can discharge water as high as an eight-storey-building.

He said its equipment can be used in other types of emergency.

“It can be used not only in fire fighting but also in rescue operation, considering the many tools and equipment and protective gears that go along with its fire fighting features,” Duenas said.

He said each truck costs P6.4-Million funded by the leadership of the late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo.

Duenas said the latest fire truck in their fleet will be used as first responder in case of fire and other contingencies like vehicular accidents.

“Given its modern-technology, we will dispatch immediately this vehicle as first responder in case of emergency,” he said.

Duenas said that Davao City is indeed privilege to acquire this fire truck which is very useful in protecting lives and property.
New fire trucks were earlier handed over to the cities of Manila, Quezon, Malabon, Caloocan, Malabon, Paranaque, Pasay, San Mandaluyong, Las Pinas and Taguig while 17 other fire trucks were distributed to other urban areas of the country.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas in February  29 turned over a total of 38 fire trucks to the Chief Superintendent Carlito Romeo, head of the BFP in the presence of Austrian Ambassador Wilhelm Donko to strengthen the firefighting capability of the agency especially in big cities.
He said fire prevention remains a big challenge for the citizenry and the new fire trucks fall part of the solution laid down by government.  (PIA XI-Joey Sem Dalumpines)
