LGU Tagum kicks-off nutrition program for employees

The Local Government Unit of Tagum City kicked off recently its Nutrition Management Program aimed to monitor the diet regimen of its employees, anchored on the prime goal of achieving a workforce with healthy lifestyles.

Mrs. Edna J. Quilario, chief of the City’s Human Resources Management Office, said this is one way of ensuring a productive workforce as a result of a science-based isometric program focused on its employees.

She stressed this is in line with the Civil Service Commission’s advocacy of promoting health and wellness among government workers.

Under the program, employees will have to follow diet recommendations as advised by the city-paid nutritionist who monitors the employees along with the city’s HR department.

The Isometric Diet takes a holistic approach to eating, and incorporates both macronutrient and micronutrient sources of energy. This goes beyond simply balancing proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Instead, an optimal balance is achieved on a deeper level one that leads to optimal body functioning, normalized blood-glucose levels, a controlled metabolism, and a healthy satiating of hunger.

In an interview, City Nutritionist Reissa Tindoy disclosed that aside from diet monitoring, the isometric diet also incorporates physical activities.

As such, identified city hall employees take every Friday afternoon as Zumba Day, sweating it out in two alternate sessions from 2:30 to 5:00 in the afternoon.

Zumba is a dance fitness program that involves dance and aerobic elements. Zumba's choreography incorporates hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue, mambo, martial arts, and some Bollywood and belly dance moves. Squats and lunges are also included.

Aside from Zumba, several sports activities like basketball and volleyball are also sustained through the HR-led Larong Pampalakasan.(Louie Lapat of CIO Tagum)
