“Ugmad Komunidad” roadshow kicks off

TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte, Mar. 8 (PIA) – The Province of Davao del Norte has started a roadshow in promoting its centerpiece program Ugmad Komunidad among the various local government units of the province.

Assistant provincial administrator Romulo D. Tagalo led the Ugmad team, which includes the chiefs of the tourism, sports, and livelihood divisions of the province, in bringing the program caravan to Sto. Tomas municipality.

He said the role of the province is simply to coordinate all efforts concerning the tourism, sports and livelihood programs, and in converging them with the respective undertakings of the LGUs.

“We are here to provide a wider framework where you can fit in,” he told the municipal officials and executives, adding that “We need to capacitate our people and provide them the enabling environment so that development will come on a natural process.”

Municipal officials, led by acting municipal administrator Charlemagne Fernandez welcomed the Ugmad team, saying Sto. Tomas still has a lot of untapped potentials in terms of tourism, while it holds great prospect with regards to sports and livelihood opportunities.

Municipal Councilor Joel Bayanay also acknowledged the provincial government for instituting the innovative program, and for choosing Sto. Tomas as a launching pad of the Ugmad roadshow.

He said the town has since been contributing a lot to the progressive image of the province.
“I believe the Ugmad program signals the start of the golden era of Davao del Norte,” he said.

Other municipal councilors who were present include Councilors Cromwell Cocamas, Ernesto Evangelista, Julie Mantequilla, Dr. Eric Estela, Ricky Inodio-an, and Armando Torres.

Gov. Rodolfo P. del Rosario recently launched Ugmad Komunidad (nurturing communities) to make Davao del Norte a premiere tourist destination by developing destinations and products, providing access to existing and potential tourism sites, as well as, aggressive promotions and marketing, without leaving the communities behind.
