DAVAO CITY
March 30 (PIA)- Concerned netizens have asked for food donations to sustain the
volunteer fire fighters trying put out the conflagration at the country’s
highest peak.
The fire
which started at a campsite near Mt. Apo’s peak Black Saturday (March 26)
afternoon is on its fifth day.
“Urgent need
food and water for our brave firefighters and volunteers in Kapatagan saving
our Mt. Apo.” Said the Facebook status of photographer and mountain climber
Rhonson Ng.
Ng is one of
those spearheading the effort to supply the hundreds of firefighters and
volunteers fighting the fire in Mt. Apo. However the food and supplies they
will be bringing is good for only two days, more is still needed.
Calls on
Facebook has been mounting for more volunteers preferably able-bodied persons
with mountaineering experience. Other calls have been made for the provisioning
of sturdy planting tools like scythes needed to create a fireline.
Currently
fire-fighting operations are concentrated on the sides facing Davao City and
Davao del Sur province.
Davao City
has dispatched its Central 911 personnel to augment the fire-fighters in the
area. A lone Huey chopper deployed from Cebu with water bucket has been used to
help put out the fire. (PIA/RG Alama)
