Davao Sur town distributes relief goods to calamity-stricken families

MAGSAYSAY, Davao del Sur, Mar 17 – The local government here led the distribution of relief goods Wednesday to thousands of families affected by the long dry spell besetting this town.

Mayor Arthur Davin said that about P1.9 million has been allocated from the calamity fund to provide food assistance to 7,000 families from the 22 barangays of this municipality.

Davin said the relief goods are composed of five kilos of rice, canned goods, brown sugar, coffee, among others.
He said the Municipal Agriculture Office, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office and the Municipal Disaster Risk-Reduction and Management Office jointly identified the beneficiaries to receive the food relief.

Last week, the Sangguniang Bayan passed and approved a resolution declaring the town under the state of calamity due to severe effects of the long dry spell affecting hectares of agricultural areas. (Magsaysay LGU/Anthony S. Allada)
