TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte, March 18 (PIA) - - A barangay health
worker of Magugpo North, Tagum City was hailed as this year’s search for the Most
Outstanding Woman in the city.
Wevina Martinez bested six other nominees in the search to receive
a painting, a plaque and a cash worth P10,000.00 during the Women’s Month
celebration at the New City Hall.
Martinez, 62, who has four children and five grandchildren with
sixth on its way, has been a barangay health worker for 34 years.
“I started in 1982 as a volunteer and it was not easy then. And I
was one of those who signed a resolution requesting honorarium for the local
health workers, which started with P50 in 1996,” she said.
The other nominees were Elina Gono, Maria Candia, Eulalia
Villacote, Esperanza Pielago, Cherryl Insog and Joy Jade Relos.
Aside from the awarding of the city’s Most Outstanding Woman, the
women’s month celebration was also highlighted with various free services for
women in the Tagum.
The services included body massage therapy, beauty care (haircut,
manicure, pedicure and foot spa), eye and breast check-up, and pap smear.
