MAGSAYSAY, Davao del Sur, Aug. 18 – Mayor
Arthur Davin told students here to choose careers which are close to their
heart and not by the prodding of anybody else.
“In choosing your career it is very important to
make a choice what makes you happy,” Davin said during the First-ever
LGU-Magsaysay Career Advocacy Summit here Monday afternoon.
He was very appreciative of high school
curriculum nowadays which integrates career guidance in the schools that would
be a big help in guiding students for their chosen path.
Davin said the local government is also
employing mechanisms that would establish linkages with the schools and the
private sector in collaborative efforts to promote career guidance advocacy
program.
In fact, he added that his administration is
prioritizing the scholarship grant to poor yet deserving high school students
because this helps address poverty in our locality.
This year alone, there are more than a thousand
high school students who have availed the scholarship program of the
municipality.
Meanwhile, to dramatize the choosing of careers,
seven students representing their respective schools joined the Costume Contest
with Career Interpretation that would serve also as the jumping board for
students to reflect into on what careers to choose in the near future.
The holding of the summit was the initiative of
the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the local government in
coordination with career advocates of different schools and cooperatives,
associations and organizations. (CDIO-Magsaysay/Anthony S. Allada)
