Ahead of K-12 implementation, Tagum to build more classrooms

TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte, August 7, 2015 - Ahead of the first year of implementation of the K-12 next school year, the City Government of Tagum will embark on a massive implementation of infrastructure projects in its public elementary and secondary schools in anticipation of the influx of students once K-12 kicks off in 2016.

The construction of additional classrooms in select public schools of Tagum is made possible through a loan secured by the City Government of Tagum from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) to the tune of 80 million pesos.

Local School Board Chairperson Mayor Allan L. Rellon stressed that the said amount will be a big help to the city’s growing population of students who are congested in public schools.

He added this is the counterpart of the local government in helping the Department of Education attain its vision of eradicating the problem on classroom shortage, especially at the onset of two additional years in basic education under Senior High School.

In Tagum City alone, the need for additional classrooms is high, based on the Investment Plan for the implementation of Senior High School of the Office of the City Schools Division of DepEd.

Under the 80 million peso loan, additional school buildings will be built in Tagum City National Comprehensive High School, Tagum City National High School extension campus in Canocotan, Pipisan Maug National High School, Liboganon Elementary School, La Filipina National High School extension, Rizal Elementary School, Tagum City National Comprehensive High School extension campus in Pandapan, Magugpo Pilot Central Elementary School, Busaon Elementary School, La Filipina Elementary School, Tagum National Trade School, Mankilam Elementary School, Mangga Elementary School, Visayan Village Central Elementary School, Union Elementary School and Apokon Elementary School.

The P80 million loan is payable within ten years based on the term loan agreement signed between the City Government of Tagum and DBP last August 3, 2015 at Freedom Stage during the LGU’s monthly convocation program.

The construction of additional classrooms in Tagum is in line with Mayor Rellon’s biggest priority on education as included in his administration’s EAGLE WINGS Program. (Louie Lapat/CIO Tagum)
