DOH conducts consultation on Regional Laboratory Network

DAVAO CITY, Oct. 3 (PIA) The government moved in to strengthen more its delivery of health services as the Department of Health through the Health Facility Development Bureau conducted a consultation on the Administrative Order No.2014 or the Guidelines on the Establishment of Regional Laboratory Network.

Dr. Tomas Maramba, chair of the technical working group on the strategic plan for the National Health Laboratory Network said the establishment of a regional laboratory network is important since laboratory services are critical to health services.

He stressed that laboratory services are also significant in making good policies and health management by the doctors and managers of public health programs.

“We intend to tap first the secondary and tertiary hospitals before we cascade down to the small hospitals,” Maramba said.

He also cited the importance of training the pathologists and medical technologists prior to the establishment of a regional laboratory network.

Maramba said the program entails hard work for both the government and the health workers.

He expressed hope that a strategic plan established by the National Health Laboratory Network will improve the laboratory services in the regional level.

“In this manner we can persuade government, management, business, national and international donors to invest on laboratory services,” Maramba pointed out.

The consultation was participated in by pathologists and medical technologists from various government and private hospitals in Davao Region. (PIA 11-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
