Big Waves pummel DC barangays


DAVAO CITY- An estimated 100 families were affected when big waves struck several coastal barangays in Davao City early Wednesday (Aug.1 ) morning.

Malou Bermudo, chief of the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSCDO) said that the affected areas were Barangays 22, 22-C Dumoy, Agdao, 76-A and Matina Aplaya. She said that big waves pummeled their homes at around 3 a.m. this morning (Aug. 1). 

There were no reported casualties but the waves totally destroyed 13 houses and partially destroying 40 structures. Bermudo said that initial assessments recorded 53 families affected but there were some areas which have not yet been reached by the CSSDO team, she estimates at least 100 families to be affected by the waves.

Some of the families are currently sheltered in barangay halls of their respective communities. Food assistance have been given to the victims and for those whose houses have been totally or partially destroyed, the City Government is expected to provide financial assistance for the victims to rebuild their homes.

Big waves has also affected residents living in Barangay Bunbong in the Municipality of Pantukan, Compostela valley Province.
