Troops on security mission to health workers ambushed in Marilog


DAVAO CITY, Apr. 20 – Army troops providing security to health workers of Marilog District Hospital (MDH) was ambushed on Thursday, at Sitio East Kibalang, Marilog, Marilog District, Davao City. 84th Infantry Battalion disclosed that the soldiers were onboard two KM250 when the incident happened at 6:00 pm.

“They were on a convoy and tasked to pick-up the medical personnel of MDH who are on a three-day medical and feeding mission in Brgy. Gumitan, Marilog District,” Lt. Col. Gabriel Viray, 84th IB Commander, said.

He said that the perpetrators were members of the Organized Crime Group (OCG), believed to be affiliated with New People’s Army. “The soldiers were able to retaliate which resulted to a 30-minute fire fight,” Viray added. Viray also said that two soldiers, identified as SSg. Albert Pamitan and Pfc. Ferdinand Causon, suffered minor injuries and were immediately brought to Robillos Hospital in Calinan for medical treatment.

He added that on-going pursuit operation is now being held against the perpetrators. “Despite the incident, our desire to reach out to the people and provide security assistance to those who extend basic services in remote areas will not falter,” he said. (10TH ID)
