TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte, Nov. 22 (PIA) – The city government of Tagum lighted up Wednesday evening its P900,000 giant Christmas Tree, drumming up not only merry thoughts but the spirit of sharing and giving.
In his message, City of Tagum Mayor Allan N. Rellon said the lighting up of the holiday tree formed part of Tagumenyos’ tradition representing brotherhood and solidarity with all Filipinos even beyond the borders of the country.
As Tagumenyos celebrated the holiday season, he asked them to reach out and share their blessings to those struggling to survive from super-typhoon Yolanda which stripped them off of livelihood.
He presented to the public some 30 individuals including children of families who found their way to Tagum City to start a living. He welcomed them to the city and distributed them sacks of rice.
Meanwhile, on the same occasion, Davao del Norte Provincial Vice Gov. Victorio R. Suaybaguio Jr. also urged Tagumenyos to pray for fellow Filipinos who suffered from various calamities, while celebrating Christmas in a spirit of sharing.
This year’s holiday tree of Tagum City bears at its top an eagle lighted by a star. The eagle symbolizes the development programs of Mayor Rellon who puts together his agenda in an acronym “EAGLE WINGS”.
EAGLE WINGS stands for Employment, education and culture; Agriculture and Fishery; Genuine Peace, security and safety; Livelihood; Economy and affordability of taxes; Wellness, sports; Infrastructure, transportation and communication; Government organizations, cooperatives and non-government organizations; and God-centered and good governance.
With the replica of an eagle perching atop, the holiday tree this year stands 23.94 meters long at the foreground of the Freedom Park at the back of Tagum City Hall.
It takes a triangular shape put aglow with thousands of lights in yellow, red, green, blue. There are also clear rice lights and LED rain drops.
Aside from the replica of an eagle, other unique features of Tagum’s holiday tree are the spirals of LED red, green and blue lights and the assorted décors of flowers, stars, angels, birds and palm trees ---all sparkling in various hues of lights.
Chief Electrical Engr. Constancio M. Alban in an interview said his team conceptualized the holiday tree with an eagle perching at its top in July this year. Alban took the concept to mean guidance for the mayor to realize the goals set for his administration to achieve.
“Naay kahayag sa pagpapatuman sa tanan niyang programa. (His program implementation is enlightened),” he said referring to the EAGLE WINGS acronym for the development agenda of Rellon. (PIA 11/ Jeanevive D. Abangan)
