DAVAO CITY, Nov. 13 – The regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) here has deployed 14 workers to augment the work force of DSWD Region 8.
Serving as first batch of volunteers, the team departed Tuesday afternoon following an orientation-seminar and team-building session.
According to Director Priscilla N. Razon of DSWD, the group will serve in the devastated areas for 15 days and another batch will replace them.
“Physically fit and professionally competent, our workers will help in the management and coordination of evacuation centers and other transition shelters. They will also assist in establishing women- and child-friendly spaces and in the distribution of relief goods,” Razon said.
She further said that the regional office has released an initial 10,800 family food packs to the families affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda in Region 8.
“Each of the food packs we have prepared contains 3 kilos of rice, 3 tins sardines, 5 pouches noodles, 2 tins beef loaf and 5 sachets 3-in-1 coffee. Along with the food packs, we have sent as well 50,000 pieces half-liter bottled water,” the DSWD official bared.
Earlier, DSWD XI sent 19,280 family food packs to Zamboanga City and delivered some 2,000 packs to the families affected by the flash floods which struck Davao City last month.
Meanwhile, DSWD is calling for volunteers to repack relief goods at the DPWH Depot, Panacan. Interested parties may call DSWD at [082] 2271964 or 2278746 and connect with Ms. Lani E. Cudino, DSWD Bayanihang Bayan Desk Officer.
Further, DSWD welcomes donations for the affected families of Super Typhoon Yolanda. Donations may be forwarded to the DPWH Depot in Panacan, Davao City.
Cash donations may be deposited in the DSWD XI Regular Trust Fund with DBP Account No. 0915-010155-030 or donors may go directly to the DSWD XI Cashier’s Office at R. Magsaysay Ave., Davao City.
