DAVAO CITY- Business Process Outsourcing firms are looking at the relative safety of Davao City for business continuity in case calamities strike their other offices in the different parts of the country.
Bert Barriga, president of ICT Davao said that they have been receiving queries regarding the viability of the city as a site for disaster recovery relocation.
This involves relocation of business to an alternate location in case a calamity strikes as to preserve business continuity. The recent calamities which struck the country particularly super typhoon Yolanda has heightened the need for an area which could serve as a disaster recovery relocation.
Barriga said a downtime of just one-hour will not sit well with clients and the main concern of companies is business continuity.
He said currently there are queries for a 6,000 and a 2,000 square meter area for BPO operations, Barriga said that disaster recovery relocation plan could factor into many BPO companies wanting to locate in the city.
He said the disaster recovery relocation plan involves putting up a parallel set-up as to the existing one. That redundancy plan would mean the increase of employees in the BPO center.
Barriga meanwhile said that this 2014 they are expecting 2,000 new BPO workers in the city and is optimistic that they are going to hit the target of 30,000-35,000 full-time employees in the BPO industry. (PIA/RG Alama)
