DAVAO CITY, Sept. 21 (PIA) – Members of the 67th Infantry Battalion and the Department of Labor and Employment Davao Oriental Provincial Office formally handed the twinning and spinning machines for abaca farmers in Manay, Davao Oriental on September 18.
1Lt. Christy Isis Achanzar, public affairs officer of the 701st Infantry Brigade based in Mati City said the awarding was realized through the collaboration of Lt. Col. Krishnamurti Mortela, commanding officer of the 67th Infantry Battalion and Albert Degamo, director of the DOLE-Davao Oriental.
She said the program was implemented in coordination with the Manay Municipal government, Barangay of San Isidro, DOLE, Fiber Industry Development Authority, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agriculture, Provincial Employment Services Office (PESO), and 67th IB under the Abaca Comprehensive Development Assistance Projects.
Mortela said the soldiers provided the transportation assistance and security to ensure the delivery of the equipment to its recipients.
“Security and transport are our simplest support to the programs of partner agencies to delivery service to the far-flung areas,” he said.
Earlier, Degamo disclosed the difficulty of bringing the equipment to the Abaca farmers in the area due to access and security.
He said the equipment had long been available for delivery to the association of fiber farms in the area. (PIA-11/ Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
