DAVAO City – Nine families nominated for the Search for Huwarang Pamilyang Pilipino will be given recognition during the Awards Ceremonies on September 24, Monday at Grand Men Seng Hotel, in time for the national observance of Family Week from September 22-30.
DSWD focal person on family Merlinda A. Paragamac said as tribute to their achievements, the top three families will receive a plaque and P 15,000, P 10,000 and P 5,000, respectively while the other six families will each get a P 500-worth of groceries.
The Search aims at recognizing families who have religiously followed the co-responsibilities indicated in the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program as well as acknowledging families who embody Filipino values and strong family ties. Further, it hopes to encourage families in general to observe and radiate Filipino family values, strengthen family relations, and be productive in their communities.
“These families were endorsed by either the Pantawid Pamilya Parent Leader, Barangay Captain or their Local Government Unit. Each LGU can only nominate one family that will serve as its official nominee. The winning family will then be the official nominee of Region XI at the national competition in Metro Manila,” Paragamac explained.
For a family to get nominated, it must obtain a 100% compliance with the Pantawid Pamilya conditions, practices and promotes a healthy living environment, is actively involved in community and environmental endeavors, demonstrates love and respect for the community, and manages and utilizes Pantawid Pamilya cash grants properly.
Nominated are the families of Elizabeth Pausta [Manay], Veveden M. Manang [Tarragona], Anicieta M. Guirino [Sta. Maria], Nelia C. Sarmiento [Malita], Sherlita Palma Gil [Caraga], Mila P. Alvar [Baganga], Lorna Covena [San Isidro, Davao Oriental], Juliet Rivera [Talaingod], and Velma O. Paglinawan [Kiblawan].
In coordination with the Regional Committee on the Filipino Family, the DSWD spearheads the Search and the Family Week Celebration with its theme, Ensuring Work-Family Balance. Other activities organized by the Regional Committee are Motorcade, Family Fun Walk, Family Forum, Family Parlor Games and Radio Guesting at DXRA Radyo Arangkada and RXRP Radyo ng Bayan.
In its efforts to protect and advance the welfare of the Filipino family, the department continues to implement family-centered programs such as Legal Adoption, Family Foster Care, KALAHI-CIDSS, Pantawid Pamilya, Sustainable Livelihood, Supplementary Feeding, Social Pension, among others. Moreover, DSWD maintains residential and rehabilitation facilities like the Home for Girls and Women, Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth, Home for the Aged and Reception and Study Center for Children, to keep the wards of the state safe from further harm, facilitate their restoration to normal functioning, and reintegrate them with their families or find them new families to care for them.
“Apart from being the basic unit of our society, a family is the most important part in the life of any person, that is, next to God. Hence, each of us should always remember to value and respect our family, no matter what,” urges Paragamac. (DSWD/Carmela Cadigal-Duron)
