DAVAO DEL NORTE – The Provincial Government of Davao del Norte has released family food packs to Ata-Manobo families who were displaced by the ongoing military operation in Barangay Palma Gil, Talaingod town.
Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Arlene Semblante reported that some 557 families or 2,395 individuals were affected by the encounter.
The Lumads (Indigenous Peoples) come from the sitios of Bagang, Nalubas, Basakan, Saso, Laslakan, Sambulongan, and Bayabas in Barangay Palma Gil, as well as, Sitio Pongpong in Barangay Dagohoy.
Semblante said evacuation areas were set up in the sitios of Nasilaban and Banlaway still in Palma Gil and in Barangay Sto. Niño.
Media reports also said some 1,353 affected Lumads have already sought refuge in Davao City.
The municipal government of Talaingod has declared the affected areas under state of calamity, while the province continues to coordinate with the relief committee of the town. (PIO by Noel Baguio)
