Members of Bugkos Media Action Group, an alliance of media organizations, is inviting Davaoeños to join them and their families and friends in donating much needed blood. Dubbed ‘Beating the deadline,’ the bloodletting activity will be held on April, 4 2014, a Friday, from 10 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon at the Kadayawan Hall of the NCCC Mall of Davao in Maa.
The Philippine Red Cross Davao, which is Bugkos Media’s partner for the event, stressed the importance of giving blood as a way of helping save lives. The group shared that according to global statistics, 1 person needs a blood transfusion every 2 seconds including 1 out of 7 people checking into the hospital.
The bloodletting activity is not the first humanitarian activity spearheaded by Bugkos Media. Late last year, the alliance made a radio plug and led in gathering donations for victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda from the different media outfits in the city.
Bugkos Media coordinator Trisha Ann Samantha Aligato said the bloodletting activity is more than being practical for practitioners whose lives can sometimes be at peril in the line of duty.
“We are trying to change the image of the media as mere entertainers and sources of information. We want the people to see that we as a group are members of the community and are willing to do our share for the benefit of everybody.”
