Young dancers lead DavNor BP medal count

BACOLOD CITY, February 4, 2014 (PIA) - Young dancers from Davao del Norte showed off their steps that captured nine medals in the dancesports finals of the just-concluded 2013 National Batang Pinoy (BP) Games in Bacolod City.

The rosy-cheeked, dimpled amateur dancers stared at each other, nodded their heads then twirled to face the crowd, while passionately moving to the tune of standard and latin dances.

When the music stopped, the Team DavNor dancers bagged three gold, two silver and four bronze medals in the dancesport event.

Kiddy pairs Cedrick Congcan & Mikhyla Thea Bonita ruled the Juvenile A category of the Standard Discipline. Patrick Kyle Jardinel & Josette Guillano also reigned the Standard Junior A, while Irlich Christian Edullantes & Vanessa Madelo dominated the Juvenile A class in the latin dances.

Duos Irlich Christian Edullantes and Bless Ed Delos Reyes, as well as, Patrick Kyle Jardinel and Cindy Congcan, grabbed the silver in the Standard Juvenile D and Standard Junior D, respectively.

The bronze medalists are Cedrick Congcan and Mikhyla Thea Bonita (Standard Juvenile D); Irlich Christian Edullantes and Bless Ed Delos Reyes (Standard Juvenile C); Patrick Kyle Jardinel and Josette Guillano (Standard Junior C); and, Irlich Christian Edullantes and Vanessa Madelo (Latin Juvenile D).

The dancers’ feat boosted Davao del Norte’s medal count to 25, with six golds, five silvers and 14 bronzes clinched in the BP national games.

The arnis squad bolstered up the team’s standing with two gold, two silver and 2 bronze medals, while lady spikers added another gold in the medal harvest with a smashing win over Iligan City in the volleyball finals.

“The team did well,” Governor Rodolfo del Rosario said, after recognizing the medalists during the Capitol Convocation program last Monday. 

The independent Barangay Una Boxing Team of Panabo City also swept a total of four gold medals, two silvers and four bronzes.

The of the Philippine Sports Commission- Philippine Olympic Committee (PSC-POC) BP games is a nationwide grassroots sports development program that provide both in-school and out–of-school children ages 15 years old and below the opportunity to become sports heroes. (DAVNOR PIO)
