Kapalong pushes Business Permit and Licensing automation

KAPALONG, Davao del Norte, February 4, 2014 (PIA) - As the local government of Kapalong continues to provide business-friendly environment particularly during licensing period, Mayor Edgardo L. Timbol summoned the business and license bureau to innovate strategies that would serve as a great tool in advancing more prompt service delivery.

The Business Permit and Licensing office headed by Mrs. Sherlina T. Arrocena introduced for the first time in January 2014 an outsourced automated Business Permit and Licensing System which  streamlined even  more the process of getting permits and licenses.

The Business One Stop Shop (BOSS) which has been implemented years ago, is now more effective in delivering prompt service to the transacting clients with the presence of the said automation system.

Arrocena reported that the automation process and their continued information dissemination  campaign had encouraged the business taxpayers to pay their obligations ahead of the deadline resulting to significant income of more than 5.9 million  gross collections from January 2 -20, 2014.

The licensing section was able to release 959 approved business permits in just 19 days,  compared to the 1,274 permits released from January to December  in 2013.

Of the forecasted total regulatory fees for the whole year which is 9,983, 444.62, they were able to collect    5,910,555.94 during the 3-week licensing period.

Mayor Timbol commended the team of such remarkable achievement particularly the head of the team, Mrs. Sherlina T. Arrocena.

“When I took the helm as the Local Chief Executive, one of my prime objectives is to modernize and improve our local government transaction processes. Mrs. Arrocena has been very supportive of this challenge and I am happy that with her leadership in the business permit and licensing bureau, systems and procedures in providing speedy and on time public service delivery is in place,” Timbol said.

Timbol added that inasmuch as the business sector is a great contributing component of the municipality’s economic growth, the local government should find ways to be as efficient and effective as possible by focusing on customer satisfaction that would generate positive impact in the  business industry.

Timbol also bared that more enhancements will be rolled out and more initiatives would be introduced in the coming licensing periods to minimize more waiting times and visits to the municipal hall. He added that maximizing access to information for customers will be prioritized thru the website.

Starting on the first week of February, a team from the Business and Licensing Bureau will have ocular visits to different barangays to conduct more information dissemination  and inspection/ assessment of establishments in support to the program of the local government in intensifying its resource mobilization endeavors.
