DOE holds public consultation on bioethanol mandates

DAVAO CITY, Aug. 1 (PIA) – The Department of Energy (DOE) together with the National Biofuels Board will be spearheading a public consultation on Bioethanol Mandates tomorrow (August 2) at the Royal Mandaya Hotel, this city.

About a hundred stakeholders from the private and government sectors from across Mindanao are expected to attend the consultation that aims to gather relevant information, comments and recommendations to serve as basis in strengthening the bioethanol programs.

One of the two major topics to be brought up is on the proposed increase in biodiesel blend from two percent to 5%.

The DOE-Oil Industry Management Bureau, Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will present the salient points under the Biodiesel Mandates (B5).
The other subject matter to be discussed is on the National Biofuels Program (NBP) for 2013-2030 which will cover the sub-topics on the NBP situationer, Biodiesel Industry Roadmap, Bioethanol Industry Roadmap and Research and Development.

These will be presented by the DOE-Renewable Energy Management Bureau, PCA, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) and Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

DOE assistant secretary Daniel A. Ariaso, Sr. will be heading the public consultation team from NBB and from other government agencies.

The Mindanao consultation is the first leg of regional public consultations, to be followed by the Visayas consultation in Palo, Leyte on August 16, and the National consultation in Metro Manila on August 23. (PIA-XI/Carina L. Cayon)
