ATI XI Trains Farmers and Extension Workers on Plant Propagation

DAVAO CITY-  The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Region XI staff conducted a two-day Training on Nursery Establishment, Management, and Propagation Techniques of Selected Fruit Crops last April 20-21, 2016 at DA-ROS, Manambulan, Tugbok District, Davao City. The training was well participated by farmers and extension workers from all over the region.

According to the Training Management Staff (TMS) of ATI, the training intends to improve the skills of the participants on plant nursery establishment and managements, as well as plant propagation, leading to the improvement of their own nurseries and plantations.

In addition, the participants are expected to re-echo the practices to plant propagators and fruit tree growers in their locality in order to improve the industry in general.

“I find the training relevant,” said Mr. Edwin Maynopas, a farmer from Mati City. He added, “Many ideas and experiences shared were applicable for us since we have many abandoned Cacao farms that are in need for rehabilitation for productivity.”

Further, Mr. Judy Tada and Mr. Susano Cariaga, farmers from Don Marcelino and Davao City, respectively, committed to share new lessons on plant propagation techniques to farmers in their community.
The TMS also showcased techniques such as Topworking which is the rehabilitation of fruit tree plantations for new or better varieties. (Michael Angelo A.
