Tagum joins nationwide fire, earthquake drill

TAGUM CITY—The Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) joined the whole country in conducting a simultaneous fire and earthquake drill as part of National Disaster Consciousness Month in consonance of its disaster preparedness program.

Students from St. Mary's College both Elementary and Secondary Department were able to participate in the surprise Earthquake and Fire drill done in their school last July 2, 2014.

Employees of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) based in Tagum City also participated in the event.

This drill highlighted the importance of disaster risk reduction mechanisms and management in the city, including their safe rescue capability, expertise and training such as safety drills.

City Administrator and CDRRMO head Mr. Giovanni Rellon said this simultaneous Fire and Earthquake drill is done to make Tagumenyos aware of the things they should do during disasters such as fire and earthquake that calls for immediate action.

The month-long celebration banners the theme “Kahandaan at Kaligtasan ng Pamayanan, Pundasyon ng Kaunlaran.” (Gleiza Delgado of CIO Tagum)
