DAVAO CITY, Sept 18 (PIA) A top official of the Department of Agrarian Reform in Davao Region urged all Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations in the region to share the profit of operating farm equipment to their members to get their share in the development of their acquired lands.
John Maruhom, director of the DAR 11 issued the call during the turn-over ceremony of a total of P2.7 Million-worth of equipment to the ARBOs from the four provinces of the region, namely, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte and Davao del Sur under the ARCcess program of the agency.
The equipment comprised of three rice threshers for Hagonoy and New Murcia, Davao del Sur; 11 floating tillers for the beneficiaries of Magsaysay and Matanao, Davao del Sur; two rice threshers respectively for Pagsabangan, Tagum City and New Corella, Davao del Norte; four rice threshers for Banaybanay, Boston and Cateel, respectively; one corn sheller for Cateel and floating threshers for Cateel, Boston and Banay-banay, respectively.
ARcess stands for Agrarian Reform Connectivity and Economic Support Services.
He explained that the program formulated in 1993 was designed to spur development in the countryside.
Maruhom said the Aquino Administration intends to include the program under Daang Matuwid through its rural poverty reduction program particularly in the Agrarian Reform areas.
He explained that the program involves two components which include the involvement of professional service providers who are experts in agriculture and business development services and the common service facilities composed of farm equipment which is based on the demand of the communities as agricultural services in support to the agrarian reform beneficiaries.
“We want to help farms to be productive and will yield more eventually to help the well-being of farming families,” Maruhom said.
He said the organizational setup of ARBOs shows their maturity in handling the responsibility of taking good care of the equipment.
Maruhom said use of the equipment must be shared so that everyone’s livelihood effort will improve.
Diomede Camacho of the Pagsabangan Farmers and Irrigators Multi-purpose Cooperative welcomed the provision of a new a rice thresher.
He said the equipment can assist in the harvest of more or less two hundred hectares of rice farms.
Camacho said their organization composed of 161 beneficiaries also acquired lots from coconut and banana plantations in the area. (PIA 11-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
