DAVAO DEL NORTE, Jan. 14 (PIA)—Residents in Davao del Norte will
soon see huge tarpaulin billboards giving information about government programs
and projects to be implemented in their locality.
Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Provincial
Director Alex RoldanTuesday revealed moves of his office to bring down
information about government projects right at the municipal and even at the
barangay level.
In cooperation with the local government units (LGUs), the DILG
Davao del Norte Provincial Field Office will hoist at the municipal halls, in LGU
public markets and at major church vicinity the info billboard on
due-for-implementation projects identified during the Grassroots Participatory
Budgeting Process (GPBP).
Roldan explained that the project info billboard will, in
a way, inform the people about the results of the GPBP that LGUs
had gone through to identify the projects they needed.
“We are applying here the principles of transparency, of
people’s participation. We will inform the people about the projects as well as
pressure government agencies to do their work,” he said in an interview.
A draft of the project info billboard gave details regarding the
site of the project, its cost and the implementing agency.
The billboard will also be designed toencourage the public to
get involve in monitoring project implementation. Those interested to
raise questions and to give feedback can text the municipal local government
operations officer (MLGOO) and even Roldan.
“We will forward the text messages to the project monitoring
office (PMO) at the national office then the PMO will coordinate with the
concerned agency,” Roldan said.
Roldan assured the public that the project info billboards will
do away with any hint of political influence though DILG will be working with
LGUs in putting up and hoisting these.
