Filipinos in Myanmar expressed satisfaction with the performance
of President Benigno Aquino III in reforming the Philippines for the past four
years in his administration.
Ramon Villanueva, assistant construction manager of HTCT, said President Aquino is doing a great job in governing the country and he is hoping that the reforms will continue even beyond Aquino’s term.
“The President is doing well and his 'daang matuwid' is working well,” Villanueva said.
He added that the President should also focus on the welfare of the overseas Filipino workers and prepare measures to address the looming power crisis.
For Leonida Ramos, academic consultant of Myanmar International School, she agreed that President Aquino has done a lot in reforming the country that resulted in regaining trust and confidence of other countries in the Philippines.
“I think he has done well in trying to build a righteous government for the country. We haven’t perfected that yet but he has to continue to pursue and move forward. We have already moved up in the ASEAN community and we just have to sustain it,” she said.
Rose Cormack, founder of Charm Z Charity, said the Aquino administration should also focus on education and poverty alleviation programs in order to sustain the country’s development.
Cormack, who is known in Myanmar for her charity works, said the government should establish livelihood programs that will help poor communities.
Myanmar is home to more than 860 Filipinos, according to the latest data from the Philippine embassy in Yangon.
Most of them are engaged in engineering and manufacturing sectors while others are teachers, lawyers, architects, technical experts and journalists.
