DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur, Nov. 11 (PIA) –
Children here took center stage as the provincial government recognized their
importance and vital role in the family and community.
In the provincial culmination of the 22nd
Universal Children's Month Celebration, children displayed enthusiasm in
participating on different contests as they showed their talents and skills in
draw and tell, poem and modern dance.
The parents were elated and were proud seeing
their children glowed as they shared their gift and ability in various fields
during the celebration at the provincial capitol gym with the attendance of
some 300 Day Care Workers from all over Davao del Sur.
Provincial Administrator Lorna
Bautista-Bandigan sent a message of encouragement to the parents through
provincial Legal Officer Atty. Renato Bartolo, Jr, stating that parents should
send their children to school.
Bandigan emphasized the importance of
discipline and right rearing “so that what they become could be reflective of
how good their parents are.”
Provincial Board Member Nonito Llanos III
vowed to revisit the law on Children's Welfare Code which could benefit the
children and the Day Care Teachers.
Another board member, Atty. Lani Gabutero
emphasized the vital role of children in the family and community. "We
need them today for the future. They should not be abused, exploited, used to
commit a crime even if minors could not be imprisoned.”
“Parents should keep an eye to their children
for they are part in our day to day efforts," she said.
The children’s month culmination was
spearheaded through the Provincial Social Welfare Development Office headed by
Esther Hermosisima. It bannered the theme "Bata Kasali Ka, Ikaw Ay
Mahalaga" which recognized the rights and privileges of children in school
and community.
The celebration served as a reminder to
everyone that children are part and parcel of the society and must be given
access to education as their tool in fighting poverty and to become effective
leaders and pillars towards nation building. (PLGU-Davao del Sur/Nilda S.
