DAVAO CITY, Nov 11 (PIA) The city
government of Davao has intensified its campaign against the Ebola Pandemic by
distributing pamphlets on its prevention to the residents.
Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said these
pamphlets must be read by the Davaoenos so that they will know what to do in
the event the pandemic reaches the city.
“It is important that the people
must avoid getting in contact with individuals afflicted with the virus,” he
said.
Duterte also reminded the people to
wash their hands all the time and to avoid rubbing their eyes, nose and mouth
which are the entry points of the virus to the body.
He looked forward that the illness
will not reach the country, as its mortality reached 9,000 dead in Western
African countries.
Duterte already pledged to speed
P1-Million for the purchase of the temperature scanner which will be installed
in the government hospital.
He assured that the city government
has allotted ambulance with protective gear for Ebola cases.
Dr. Abdullah Dumama, director of the
Department of Health 11 assured the prepared of government in handling the
Ebola pandemic with the provision of scanners in the Davao International
Airport and other entry points in the country to massive information campaign
on Ebola.
He said information-awareness
campaign has been intensified involving the functionaries of the Department of
Health from the national, region down to the barangay level.
Dumama said that in Davao City
alone, 150 barangay chairs participated in the information campaign last Monday
about the Ebola Pandemic and their role as first responder in their respective
communities on suspected Ebola cases. As early as October, orientation on
Ebola had been conducted on 50 municipal, district and provincial health
offices in Davao Region.
He said a similar orientation was
also conducted for the Bureau of Customs and Bureau of Quarantine.
In October 30, the Davao City
government organized its Ebola Task Force.
The DOH distributed personnel protective
equipment to the Southern Philippines Medical Center, DOH, Police Regional
Office 11 and the Emergency Response Center Central 911.
Dumama said corresponding use and
disposal of PPEs were included in the briefings.
He said six sentinel hospitals in
the region were also identified as treatment areas for Ebola cases, namely the
Davao Regional Hospital in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, Southern Philippines
Medical Center, Davao Medical School Foundation, San Pedro Hospital and the
Davao Doctors Hospital.
“Overseas workers are encouraged to
be honest in disclosing where they came from by filling up information forms
for health authorities to be certain in their investigation in the event an
