Capitolympics opened in DavNor



DAVAO DEL NORTE, November 10 (PIA) - - The annual sporting event for the provincial government employees launched earlier today at the Davao del Norte Sports Complex.

Gov. Rodolfo del Rosario declared the opening of the sporting event dubbed as Capitolympics, which will be participated by the provincial employees divided into seven teams.
 The teams will compete in basketball, volleyball, badminton, lawn/table tennis, swimming, kickball, athletic and board events, in which the regular games will be held every Friday starting on November 14 and the awarding ceremony during the Christmas Party of the provincial government.

Governor Del Rosario stressed that the provincial government should be promoting health and wellness among its employees as the most valuable resource in the delivering the service to the public.

He said that the provincial capitol will bring in today the spirit of Tagum City as the sports tourism destination of the province.

He likened the province’s three component cities as the competing teams with its distinct strengths.

“We hope that the province will be known in the future through the unique characteristics of our component cities - Samal as the premier tourism destination with medical tourism area, Panabo as an agro-fishery tourism area and Tagum as a sport tourism area,” he said.

The opening of the Capitolympics was highlighted with the Cheer Dance Competition, which was won by the team CoTers composed of the employees from the offices of the Governor, Provincial Administrator, Information Officer and Legal Officer.

Team Builders (offices of the Provincial Engineer and Planning and Development Coordinator) and Team Legislators (offices of the Vice Governor, and Sanggunaing Panlalawigan members and secretariat) came in second and third respectively. (PIA 11, Michael Uy)
