PANABO CITY, Davao del Norte – The City Government of Panabo through
the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) joined the
simultaneous tree planting activity targeting 25,000 seedlings in 50
hectares with 1,250 planters to break the Guinness world record of most
trees planted within one hour now being held by India.
As of September 26, 2014, 7:30PM, CENRO disclosed the partial and
unofficial count of 18,289 seedlings planted at Purok 6 and 7 of
Barangay Lower Panaga. Base on attendance, 1,065 planters were recorded
including students from different schools, Civic Organization, Employees
of private and government sector.
During the activity,
they went to the area as early as 5 a.m. in the morning for their
registration. They pass a river through a hanging bridge bringing their
planting tools and their respective seedlings in their assigned area.
Personnel from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources
(DENR), Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO) and CENRO
also converged to assist and document the incoming and outgoing
planters.
CENR Officer Engr. Felix Senajon said that it is part of the National
Greening Program (NGP) and a campaign against global warming and
climate change. “The activity will not only give us honor to our country
but also serve as motivation to plant more and help rejuvenate our
Mother Nature,” said Senajon.
In an interview, City Councilor Ronald L. Ang, chairperson of the
Sangguniang Panglungsod Committee on Natural Resources and Environmental
Protection said the activity was supported by city officials led by
City Mayor Jose L. Silvosa, Sr. for providing transportation and snacks
to selected LGU employees who joined the tree planting.
Meanwhile Letecia Cabactulan, Barangay Captain of Lower Panaga, was
glad to see that people from different places to join the activity
despite of the difficult terrain. She is positive that the seedlings
planted will survive as long as it will be taken care of properly.
Brgy. Lower Panaga, Panabo City was chosen as one of the 10 areas of
Davao del Norte to join in the world record tree planting including
Brgy. Buan, Asuncion; Brgy. New Cortez, New Corella; Sitio. Salawao,
Brgy. Sto. Niño, Talaingod; Sitio. Cabadiangan, Brgy. Sto. Niño,
Talaingod (CTCA); Sitio. Cabadiangan, Brgy. Sto. Niño, Talaingod (LGU);
VIP, Talaingod, Sitio Katian, Brgy. Florida, Kapalong; Brgy. San Jose,
Sto. Tomas; Brgy. Balagunan, Sto. Tomas; Brgy. Tagpopongan, Babak
