Tagum’s traffic officers show force in ‘traffic walk’

TAGUM CITY July 8- The Traffic Management Office of the City of Tagum held a Traffic Walk last July 4, 2013 led by its supervisor, Police Inspector Angelito de Castro who also heads the Traffic Management Office of the Tagum City Police Station.

Joined by the 60-strong old and new members of the TMO, the first-ever Traffic Walk was geared towards teaching the newly-minted members of the traffic group the importance of Traffic, Direction and Control (TDC).

Inspector de Castro stressed that the event would let Tagumeños know that these traffic personnel are reliable in ensuring the good traffic flow in the city’s major thoroughfares.

Prince Charles Araneta, a Traffic Management Officer for almost one year said that the main concern of the neophytes of the TMO is to deal with drivers by avoiding a short fuse as motorists would usually try to intimidate new traffic personnel in exercising their respective functions.

When asked about a good way of handling an irate driver bent on avoiding a penalty or a warning for a traffic violation, said Traffic officer stated, “ipahibalo unya ipasabot sa tao na dili tama iyang gibuhat ug ingnan ni nga dili na niya buhaton ug usab.” (inform him then let him understand that what he is doing is wrong and tell him not to do it again)
Motorists who incurred traffic violations would first be given Traffic Warning, followed by Traffic Citation, and lastly by Traffic Arrest.

De Castro said his office will strictly implement the law on wearing helmets for those driving and riding single motorcycles in the city.

This is in line with Mayor Allan L. Rellon’s directive of ensuring the safety of Tagumeños, as included in his governance agenda stipulated under the EAGLE WINGS Program.

At the end of the traffic walk, Inspector de Castro reminded the gathered traffic management officers to be disciplined at all times, to ensure traffic safety and that properties should always be protected. (Richi Gulle of CIO Tagum)
